Window-dressing

Author  František Reichentál

In the Window-Dressing Course Book which Reichentál wrote on J. Vydra’s impulse, there was a summary of his theoretical and practical experiences in the field that was, so far, instructed in the Czechoslovak state schooling only in the School in Bratislava. In it, he deals with the composition of construction, symmetric and asymmetric arranging, placards and posters, colour harmony and fabric decorations, type, price labels, shop-window lighting and dress-pinning. The book is complemented with a copious illustration apparatus: from schematic drawings and composition designs to examples of finished “model” shop-windows. Reichentál lists most of them as works done by the pupils of the School of Arts and Crafts in Bratislava — it is a unique perspective into the School’s internal pedagogical processes.
